News WAKE UP! THE FUTURE IS TODAY! 08/11/2023

This is how Manuel Gouveia Pereira, Of Counsel and Head of Environment, Climate Change & ESG at GPA Law Firm, closed the panel "Does your company size matter?" which he moderated at the 1st Congress on Sustainability, organised by GRACE – Empresas Responsáveis, held on 7 November at the Tivoli BBVA in Lisbon. The panel included Catarina Gomes (CEO of J. Gomes, Lda), Isabel Vaz (CEO of Luz Saúde), Tayeb Mouhcine (South Europe & Turkey Cluster General Manager of the Bel Group), Teresa Gonçalves (CEO of the SATA Group) and Carlos Medeiros Abreu (Executive Board Member of Secil).

The debate provided a very interesting sharing of experiences, especially due to the dynamic way in which each of the companies involved explained the ESG measures they have been implementing in their respective sectors, taking into account the European Green Deal, Fit for 55 and the new ESG regulatory framework.

The conclusions brought to light were the following:

  • Sustainability has nothing to do with the size of the company! Although the CSRD reporting rules immediately oblige large companies, it is inevitable that the entire value and supply chain will be quickly impacted.
  • All companies will start receiving ESG questionnaires and will be required to comply with "green clauses" in contracts. It is therefore essential to start dealing with and mastering sustainability today!

At the end of the Congress, training vouchers were raffled off, with GPA Law Firm, through GPA Academy, being one of the trainers providing training on the subject of "ESG: How to navigate this regulatory ocean?".

GPA Law Firm became a member of GRACE - Responsible Companies in the same year that it celebrated 18 years of existence. This was one of the initiatives that reinforced our firm commitment to sustainability towards our Clients and Stakeholders.
