It is 2 years now that the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) is directly applicable in all Member States.
In the specific context of the implementation of the GDPR, GPA - Gouveia Pereira, Costa Freitas & Associados - Sociedade de Advogados, SP, RL has been developing projects to implement the new rules on the protection of personal data, supporting the function of data protection officer and provides legal advice to several clients in the most different business and activity sectors, having adapted a specific implementation format for SMEs.
At this time, GPA has a team of 20 (twenty) Data Protection Professionals certified by the Irish Computer Society, 4 (four) with Rumos (CRE-DPO) certification as Data Protection Officers, as well as 1 (one) Partner certified by IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals.
GPA promoted, together with the University of Lisbon Law School, in 2019, the “1st International Conference on Data Protection Law”, with speakers Catarina Costa Ramos, Coordinating Associate of GPA and João Gabriel, GPA Of Counsel, as well as the “1st Advanced Postgraduate Course in Data Protection Law”, with sessions given by GPA's Of Counsel, Ricardo Couto, João Gabriel and Francisco Rodrigues Rocha and by the GPA Coordinating Associate, Miguel Duarte Santos and, also, the “1st Data Protection Law Days - the GDPR Execution Law”, with GPA being represented by its Managing Partner, Sofia Gouveia Pereira, as well as by GPA's Of Counsel, João Gabriel and Francisco Rodrigues Rocha. It should be noted that GPA was also present, in 2019, at the Conference on “The Data Protection Officer” that took place at the University of Lisbon Law School, being represented by GPA's Of Counsel, João Gabriel.
This year, GPA was present at the “Data Protection Compliance” conference, with speakers Francisco Rodrigues Rocha, Of Counsel at GPA, and Miguel Duarte Santos, Coordinating Associate at GPA.
In 2019, GPA, through its partner Leonor Costa Freitas, was present at the European Data Protection Congress, promoted by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), which took place in Brussels.
And, also in 2019, GPA was present at the “11th National Annual Data Protection Conference” in Ireland, being represented by GPA Of-Counsels Ricardo Couto and João Gabriel and by GPA Coordinating Lawyer, Catarina Costa Ramos, as well as being present at the 9th edition of the European Data Protection Days, in Berlin, with the Coordinating Lawyer at GPA, Catarina Costa Ramos.
Regarding publications, GPA signed, for the second consecutive year, a chapter on Cybersecurity legislation in Portugal, published by ICLG (International Comparative Legal Guide to: Cybersecurity 2020), through the Coordinating Lawyer of GPA, Catarina Costa Ramos.
On the other hand, this year, GPA Academy - which aims to provide continuous training for GPA Lawyers and Employees - promoted the edition of «General Data Protection Regulation - Legislation and some notes» (edited by Dr. Sofia Santos and Dr João Gabriel), distributed by the Almedina bookstore, as well as promoted sessions of the Data Protection Professional course, in partnership with the Irish Computer Society, with the attribution of a certificate. In 2019, it also promoted, in partnership with the F3M Training Centre, the 1st Edition of the Training “DPO in IPSS”, carried out by Paula Alegria Martins, GPA Lawyer, and was also present, in 2020, at the workshop “RGPD, the essential of the Regime and the first year and a half of publication”, at CCIP - Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, carried out by the Coordinating Lawyer of GPA, Catarina Costa Ramos.
The GPA Academy also organized, in 2019, in partnership with the Bar Association - Faro Regional Council, training sessions on Cybersecurity and Data Protection.
In the year 2020, GPA Academy organized online training on “Data Protection and Cybersecurity for beginners and Data Treatment of Workers in the context of Pandemic”, by GPA Coordinating Lawyer, Catarina Costa Ramos and GPA Lawyer , Paula Alegria Martins, and on “Cybersecurity - Good practices, risks, insurance and connection with the GDPR”, in charge of GPA Lawyer, Paula Alegria Martins.
