Decree-Law no. 10-C / 2020 introduced an exceptional regime according to which motor vehicles and their trailers, light or heavy, that should be submitted to periodic inspection in the period from March 13 until the June 30, 2020, see their term extended by five months from the date of registration.
This change comes under the scope of exceptional and temporary measures to respond to the epidemic of the disease COVID-19 and while this regime is in force, non-compliance with the obligation of periodic inspection is not relevant for the purpose of civil liability insurance or the right of return of the insurance company, as established in the applicable legislation.
Notwithstanding the partial suspension of activity of the entities managing inspection centres for motor vehicles and their trailers until 30 June 2020, the provision of some essential services was defined by Ordinance No. 80-A / 2020, of 25 March, namely the provision of inspection services that must be carried out, by appointment, for specific vehicles such as: Heavy passenger cars, Heavy goods cars, Licensed light cars for public transport of passengers and ambulances, Re-inspections of previously failed vehicles, Cars used in school transport, etc.
Decree-Law No. 10-C / 2020 of 23 March came into force on 24 March 2020 and is effective until 30 June 2020.
