On January 10, 2019, Law No 4/2019 established an employment quota system for people with disabilities. People with a degree of incapacity that is greater than or equal to 60% can now be recruited by public and private entities not covered by Decree-Law no. 29/2001, of February 3, as it is the case of central and local public administration, as well as public services in state funding.
The new regime provides that medium-sized companies (between 50 and 249 employees) with a number equal to or greater than 75 workers must admit disabled employees, corresponding, at least, to 1% of the companies’ workforce. Large companies (250 or more workers) must admit disabled employees, corresponding, at least, to 2% of the companies’ workforce.
