Ricardo Couto, Of Counsel at GPA - Gouveia Pereira, Costa Freitas & Associados, is the author of a practical guide on Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products (PRIIPS).
The EU Regulation on key information documents for packaged retail and insurance-based investment products (EU 1286/2014) (the PRIIPs Regulation) applies from 1 January 2018. It imposes a requirement for a standardized key information document (KID) to be provided by those manufacturing or distributing packaged retail and insurance-based investment products (PRIIPs) to retail investors before concluding a contract for a PRIIP. PRIIPs aims to improve investors protection by ensuring that retail investors are given pre-contractual information about the product’s risks, projected returns, and costs, in a format that is easy to understand and which facilitates comparison with other products.
This practical guide thus provides support for reading the existing legal framework on the subject of PRIIPs and respective KIDs, however without replacing, dismissing or even interpreting the existing legal acts, which will always have to be accessed for application to any real and tangible situation.
